How much do you charge?

Several factors effect the final cost of our services, two of the biggest factors are, the length of your event and the date of your event. We offer several different packages to allow you to choose the options that will provide the best value for you. Prices tend to be lower during the week and on Sundays, and higher for events on Friday and Saturday nights. Please contact us to check on availability and rates for your event.

Do you charge for overtime?

Sound In Motion offers several inclusive packages to meet your needs. In addition, each package can be customized to meet your needs. These packages include a guaranteed number of hours of music for your guests. Generally, this means that no overtime will be required. However, if the party is still going, additional hours can be arranged. Only the client can authorize additional time, and it must be paid at the end of the event.

What do I need to know about picking a DJ?

First ask yourself, how important is your Special Event? Then, try to estimate the impact the Disc Jockeys services will have on the overall success or failure of your special event.

In post-event surveys, Sound In Motion clients say that the entertainment accounted for 75% of the success of their event! Whether it's a Wedding Reception, Corporate Event, or a Private Party, the success or failure depends upon the quality of services you receive from your Disc Jockey. These events are driven by the entertainment, your guest are there to celebrate! The food, photos, and decor are important, but it is the quality of the DJ is the difference between leaving after the meal is done and partying the night away.

In the Dallas/Fort Worth area the average cost of a cheese platter is $7.50 per person. Multiply that by 150 guests, and you have spent $1,125 on cheese! Is the success of your event worth more than what you would pay for a cheese platter? Are you guests going to have more memories of the hor'douvers, or of the music?

Can we see you perform at another event?

Sound In Motion would never invite a guest to your event, so we are unable to invite you to another clients event. Because the vast majority of events that we perform at are "private parties" we do not have the liberty of inviting potential clients to those events. The larger issue is that each performance is crafted for the tastes of the individual clients. Sound In Motion has the experience to do everything from "be a high energy party starter" to "just show up and play the music" - so the event you attend might not be anything like the event you are planning.

We will be happy to provide you with references for recent events that we have done. Please contact us for references or additional information.

How will you know what kind of music that we want to hear?

No two events are the same, and no two play lists are the same. Before we arrive to perform at your event, Sound In Motion will meet with you to plan the musical program. We take into account the kind of event that you are having, who your guests are, your individual musical tastes, the different radio stations that you listen to, and the kinds of music that you have recently purchased. All of these factors go into crafting the musical program for your event.

By meeting with you ahead of time, and taking time to find out what kind of music you and your guests want to hear, Sound In Motion is better able to integrate requests from your guests into the musical program. You and your guests know better than any DJ what kind of music you want to hear. However, when guests span several generations, it is likely that the younger guests will more actively request songs than the more seasoned guests. Sound In Motion has the experience to blend a wide variety of musical tastes into a musical program that can still appeal to all of your guests.

Because of the appeal of current radio hits and the use of "offensive" lyrics, Sound In Motion makes an extra effort to screen all of the requests that we receive. All of the songs in our musical library are the "clean" versions, even of current radio hits. In addition, Sound In Motion will only play songs that are appropriate for the event. If it is the best judgment of the DJ that a particular request is "inappropriate", only you (or someone you specifically designate) can override that judgment.

Do you take requests?

Absolutely! Sound In Motion is there to entertain you and your guests. Beginning after your guests arrive, we will announce that requests are welcome. A pad of paper will be provided at the DJ booth for your guests to make requests. A notebook with our party play list will also be provided for your guests to look through.

However, Sound In Motion does not play songs that would be inappropriate for your event. In addition, if there are songs that you do not want played, there is a space in the party planning guide to list any music that you do not want to hear. If the DJ determines that a song if inappropriate for the event, only the contracting party may override the best judgment of the DJ.

Will you play songs that we provide for you on CD?

Yes! Sound In Motion is an all CD based DJ service. If you have a special CD, we will be happy to play it for you, or your guests. If you have a special song on cassette or LP, we can convert it to CD ahead of time and play it at your event. Songs in mp3 format can also be converted to CD ahead of time.

Can we look at your full list of songs?

Sound In Motion can provide you with a list of our most popular party songs. This list contains over 2,000 songs covering a wide range of musical styles, and was specifically compiled for mobile DJs. However, our full musical library has a lot more songs than that! Our full musical collection spans a wide variety of musical styles, from current radio hits, to classic rock, R&B, blues, classical, to the sounds of the 40s and 50s.

Even if your special song is not in our library, Sound In Motion is more than happy to try and locate your special song. Unfortunately, it is not possible to guarantee that any specific song can be found.

For a partial list of the songs that Sound In Motion has available at every event please see the Musical Library page.

What time will you arrive?

Typically, Sound In Motion arrives about 90 minutes before your first guest arrives at the venue. During that time, the equipment is brought into the venue, the sound system is setup, a sound check is performed, and the DJ changes into new attire for the party.

What will you be wearing?

Typically, Sound In Motion will wear a tuxedo. However, a range of attire is available to match the formality of your event. In addition to the tuxedo, a western tuxedo, suit, vest and tie, business casual, and casual attire are available. You can specify the kind of attire you would like the DJ to be wearing at your event. During setup and teardown, the DJ will typically wear business casual attire (slacks and a polo shirt), and will change prior to your first guest arriving at the event.

Do you charge extra for setup time or tear down time?

No. Sound In Motion normally needs about 90 minutes to setup a full sound system and about 60 minutes to tear down the sound system. You are not charged for that time. You are only charged for the time we are performing for your guests. Occasionally, a venue requires Sound In Motion to setup many hours ahead of the performance, or to tear down on the following day in those cases an extra charge may be applied.

Do you charge for travel or travel time?

Not within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Within the DFW area there is no additional charge for travel or for travel time. For events outside the DFW area, a fee may be added to cover travel expenses and travel time. For events more than 150 miles from DFW, overnight accommodations for the DJ may be required.

Will you emcee the evening?

Of course. Sound In Motion will provide professional emcee services for every event we play at no additional charge. Any announcements, introductions, or messages you want conveyed to your guests will be made.

Will you coordinate the evening with our other wedding vendors?

Absolutely. Sound In Motion is happy to work with all of the vendors at your event to ensure that the entire event will run smoothly. If you have hired a professional event coordinator, Sound In Motion is more than happy to take our cues from that person. If you would prefer to have Sound In Motion coordinate your event, we can provide cues for your photographer, and catering staff to keep everyone together for the full event.

Will you see the venue ahead of time?

Before each event, Sound In Motion will arrange an onsite walk through at your venue. This allows us to be familiar with the specific room that you will be using, and it allows us to meet with the venue staff to discuss arrival and setup procedures. Occasionally, it is not possible for Sound In Motion to do this advance walk through. In those situations, the venue is contacted by phone to discuss the logistics of your event. In addition, if the walk through is not done, Sound In Motion arrives earlier than normal to accommodate any unforeseen problems getting setup for your event. You are never charged for time spent doing this walk through.

How do you control the volume during the event?

Sound In Motion is always in control of the volume at your event. During the setup, an initial sound check is done to help place the sound in the room. During your event, the DJ will walk through the room to monitor the volume. During the early portions of the evening, the volume will be kept low, to allow your guests to socialize. Later, once the party gets started, the volume usually goes up, but Sound In Motion would rather hear Turn it Up than Turn it Down. It is our experience that really makes the difference. By carefully placing our speakers in the room, Sound In Motion is able to provide great sound with less power, and with less volume. We place the power where you want it, on the dance floor, and not into the far corners of the room. This allows your guests to enjoy the dance floor, and still hold a conversation at their table.

Do you have enough equipment to play our event?

Sound In Motion can provide sound systems for parties from 15 to 1,500. The basic sound system that is used for most events provides two speakers and delivers up to 1,000 watts of power into the room. For our largest events, eight speakers are provided and over 4,000 watts of power can be delivered into the room. Sound In Motion has the experience to provide a full rich sound in any room by placing the speakers to put the sound where you want it. By taking a few moments to examine the room, Sound In Motion is able to provide great sound on the dance floor, while still allowing your guests to socialize in the rest of the room.

What type of equipment do you use?

Sound In Motion uses professional quality DJ equipment to provide an all CD based sound system. The equipment includes brands like Klipsch, Yamaha, Peavey, Numark, and BrandX. A professional quality wireless mic is standard at every event. A full list of the equipment that will be used at your event is available upon request. Before every event, all of the equipment is tested. Sound In Motion has never had a failure of a single piece of equipment on the job. However, a full set of backup equipment is still provided for every event.

Do you bring backup equipment with you?

The backup equipment is the same quality as the main equipment. For every event, a full set of backup equipment is available onsite. Any single piece of equipment can fail, and the music still goes on.

Do you eat with our guests?

No. We do not eat at your event. We are there to entertain your guests, not to add to your catering bill.

Do you drink during the event?

No. Sound In Motion never consumes alcohol during your event. We bring a supply of bottled water or soda to consume during your event.

Do you accept tips?

No tips are required. No tips are solicited from you or your guests. No tip jar is placed out for your guests. Sound In Motion is a professional DJ service, we are paid by the contracting party for our time. From time to time, a guest offers a tip for services that are above their expectations. During the initial consultation you will be asked if the DJ may accept that tip, and your directions are followed in that situation.
